Synthetic Ivory

Ivortech GmbH is a spin-out of the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, Germany

At Sauter Pianofortemanufaktur in Spaichingen in Germany, the management talked of their wish to have an innovative material for their keyboards with the same functional characteristics as natural ivory.
The opportunity to fulfil this wish occurred quite unexpectedly during the Christmas visit to Sauter by the team from the Quantum Electronics department of the Stuttgart-based Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research. A wish for the researchers was requested: Synthetic Ivory

The first concert grand piano using this ivory was presented and played at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart on the 16th July 2019
